M14 Scope Mounts
I like the M14 Scope Mounts, and will never get rid of my M14 Scope Mounts-EBR or my other standard M14 Scope Mounts. However, I think it’s time the Army ditch the platform all together. Right now the AR10 is a nice temporary solution, might even be “THE” solution for the next 20 years. He included a copy of a series of emails back and forth beginning in December of last year. Here’s his latest to me: Mike, I’d like to warn people about buying scope mounts from LaRue Tactical since you may well not get the one you need, and then they won’t do anything about it. When you spend $250.00 for a scope mount, it damn well be the one you needed, especially when you called and spoke to their rep before ordering. If you could warn your readers, I think it would be a great service to them. Perhaps ask David to do the same. The story is in the below email stream. The picture of my rife, scope mount and scope fitted and bore-sighted attached. As you can see, it has to go all the way up to the turret to get a decent eye relief. Also, I had to crank it all the way up to get it bore-sighted for 100 yards, leaving no more elevation for greater distances. Before anyone buys a quick disconnect sight from LaRue Tactical, they better know [...]

I do believe the Army can take the time to correct the complaints fostered with their SAGE stocked rifles, they are correctable, but training and leadership are not what they should be and all too often the brass accepts the complaints from line grunts and choose to drop the weapon system rather than provide the proper training the soldiers need to use and maintain the weapon system effectively. Oh and yes, the Marines are much better at training their shooters. ETA: when it comes to parts for the M14 Scope Mounts rifle system, remember you are competeing with Uncle Deep Pockets. New parts are being made but the manufacturers know if they can set a profitable price with Uncle Your Tax Dollars at Work, that price will carry over to the civilian market. They all are pretty solid mounts, but I cannot vouch for their return to zero (yet). I have not yet removed and replaced any of these. I also have LT scope mounts that are known to return to zero, but cost considerably more (for a reason). I read (here) that the Burris scope mounts are now made in China, this may/may not be true. I have several of the standard PEPR scope mounts that are solid, none are marked as Chinese, so this is maybe unfounded. They all appear well made, none are marked US either. Sorry that I cannot answer your question about the QD scope mounts returning to zero, I have to believe it will as it truly is a solid mount. HTH chewbacca

4/17/2012 8:04:49 PM I called surefire and talked to a guy named Andrew and he said the Surefire Fury isnt intented to withstand the recoil and indeed would turn itself of f and on during firing in some cases. He said it may not for awhile but it wouldnt be trustworthy in this role.

1/28/2003 12:49:23 PM As mr_wilson indicated, the problem is likely your mounting method. In addition to his points: The height over bore for the Aimpoint is significantly increased by mounting it to the top of your carry handle. While this shouldn’t necessarily affect group size, it will dramatically affect group placement. Add in a little “wiggle room” and larger “group” sizes aren’t out of the question. Mounting the Aimpoint to your flattop with a GG&G Cantilever mount or ARMS #22M68 w/ spacer will reduce the height over bore and probably tighten things up a bit. I would recommend the ARMS #39 A2 Plus, but I don’t think it will mount to your removeable carry handle. Texas-AR-Fan
